Steps to Double Your Phone Battery

Step 1: Preparing the Batteries

To increase capacity, you’ll need to use two batteries instead of one. Make sure both are compatible with your device and have similar voltage levels. You can find compatible batteries on Battery Universe.

Step 2: Peeling Off the Battery Skin

Peel back the protective skin from one of the batteries, but don’t remove it completely. On the second battery, slice a portion of the outer skin on both sides until the black plastic PCB cover is easily accessible. Use a precision knife for better control.

Step 3: Aligning and Binding the Batteries

Place the two batteries belly to belly and bind them loosely using the peeled skin. Ensure they are securely aligned before proceeding.

Step 4: Connecting the Battery Terminals

Before connecting the batteries, confirm that the voltage difference between them is less than 50mV. New batteries typically have around 3.9V, which ensures stability. Use a multimeter to check the voltage.

• Solder B+ to B+ using a high-quality soldering iron.
• Connect P- to P- while leaving B- open. DO NOT bridge B-, as it is unprotected and may cause damage.

Step 5: Adjusting the PCB Covers

Cut small notches into the plastic PCB covers at the bridging wire positions to prevent them from being lifted. Reattach the PCB covers and ensure the batteries are still correctly aligned. If needed, loosen and readjust before finalizing.

Step 6: Securing the Batteries

Rewrap the batteries using the peeled skin and secure the connections with high-temperature Kapton tape. Ensure no metal parts are exposed to prevent short circuits.

Step 7: Adjusting the Phone Casing

Since the modified battery setup will be thicker than a standard one, the phone’s back cover will not fit. You can either:

• Trim and reshape the existing case using a Dremel tool (available on Amazon).
• 3D print a custom back cover using designs from Thing verse.
• Use a trimmed RFID card as a makeshift cover, a method that has been successfully used by DIY enthusiasts.
