Samsung’s latest flagship foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, is making waves not just for its sleeker design but also for a controversial omission—the removal of S Pen support. In pursuit of a thinner, lighter device, Samsung sacrificed the digitizer layer required for stylus input, marking a major shift from previous Galaxy Z Fold models. While this decision helps the Galaxy Z Fold achieve a more refined profile, it has sparked debate among fans who valued stylus functionality for productivity and creativity.

A Comeback in the Works

Citing a story published by ETNews, Samsung is already working on new technologies to bring the S Pen back to its foldable lineup. The update reportedly comes straight from Kang Min-seok, Samsung’s Head of Smartphone Product Planning, who confirmed that the company wants to reintroduce stylus support in future Galaxy Z Fold models.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7, which debuted on July 9 at Galaxy Unpacked 2025, is the first book-style foldable in years to skip S Pen support entirely. This move followed the same strategy seen with the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which lost several advanced stylus features, including Bluetooth-based Air actions, remote camera shutter controls, and hands-free gestures.

At the time, Samsung explained that fewer than 1% of users actually took advantage of those advanced S Pen capabilities, which is why the company prioritized a thinner form factor over stylus integration.

New Stylus Tech on the Horizon

Still, Samsung isn’t ruling out a return for the S Pen in future foldables. According to the report, the company is developing “thinner and more innovative” technologies that could make it possible to integrate the S Pen without compromising the design.

Kang Min-seok emphasized that Samsung is focused on striking the right balance between sleek design and functionality rather than simply chasing thinner, lighter devices at any cost.

Samsung is reportedly waiting until the “level of perfection” improves—and consumer demand grows—before bringing the S Pen back to the Galaxy Z Fold series.

For now, Galaxy fans who love using a stylus will have to wait and see what the next generation of foldables holds.
