WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that lets you generate unique chat wallpapers using artificial intelligence. At the same time, the platform is working on threaded message replies that promise to make conversations easier to follow.
With the latest update on iOS, users can now create custom chat backgrounds simply by typing a prompt. The AI-powered wallpaper feature, built on Meta AI, is also available to beta testers on Android.
How the AI Chat Wallpaper Feature Works

When you tap this option, a prompt box appears where you can describe the image you want. Within a few seconds, Meta AI generates several wallpapers based on your prompt. You can swipe through the previews, pick the one you like, or tap Make changes to regenerate the images with different tweaks.
Once you’ve selected a wallpaper, you can adjust its position and control brightness—especially handy if you use dark mode—before tapping Set.
Gadgets 360 tested this on WhatsApp for Android beta 2.25.207. The feature generally worked as expected, although occasionally it didn’t follow specific instructions about colors or details in the image.
Threaded Message Replies in the Works
WhatsApp is also developing a feature to show message replies in the form of structured threads, similar to how iMessage handles replies. This will help users keep track of conversations more easily in busy chats. The threaded replies feature is still under development. It’s expected to roll out to beta testers on both iOS and Android in the coming months.
If all goes well, WhatsApp users can look forward to a more organized messaging experience—and chat wallpapers as creative as their imaginations.
