At the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity 2025, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan announced that Google’s Veo 3 AI video generation model will be integrated into the platform this summer,
What Is Google Veo 3 and Why It Matters for Shorts?

In a blog post, Mohan highlighted how AI tools like Dream Screen have already helped creators generate backgrounds and videos for Shorts. Now, with Veo 3, creators will be able to craft cinematic-style clips with synchronized audio and high-fidelity visuals—right from within YouTube Shorts.
Google DeepMind’s Veo 3 model was originally unveiled at Google I/O 2025 and offers:
- Native audio generation, including ambient sounds and dialogue
- Enhanced physics realism and lip syncing
- Improved prompt adherence for more accurate video outcomes
The rollout is expected to begin this summer, though a specific date has yet to be announced.
Canva and Veo 3 Integration Already Live
Canva has already implemented Veo 3 in its ‘Create a Video Clip’ feature—part of its AI tool suite for paid users. This tool allows generation of short clips with cinematic rendering and audio, which can then be edited using Canva’s in-built video editor.
Currently, Canva limits users to five Veo 3-based video generations per month, though this limit may expand as the technology matures.
More AI Upgrades Coming to YouTube
YouTube also emphasized the success of its Auto Dubbing feature, which translates videos into nine languages. Since launch, it has helped expand the reach of more than 20 million videos globally.
This move aligns with YouTube’s broader strategy to enhance accessibility and creativity through AI. The integration of Veo 3 represents a leap forward in short-form content creation, bridging the gap between creators and advanced production tools.
